My Running Story

History
I was born January 7th, 2002 in San Antonio, Tx. Living in a rough neighborhood I was able to keep my grades up and attend The University of Texas at Austin. Currently a senior studying Applied Movement Science in the College of Education. In the picture above I am getting ready to start my district race. (I am the on in the middle with the crazy hair)

The Beginning
I was never a big runner growing up, it wasn't until high school where I picked up running. I joined my high school cross country team my sophomore year and this is when I realized "Hey I'm not to bad at this". Ever since September of 2018 I have ran over 2500 miles and still counting.

Cross Country
17 minutes and 34 seconds was the fastest 5k run I ever ran during my stent in the owls cross country team. I loved running with my team mates as they were there to get better and help each other get better as well as teaching younger generations of runners. My senior year I was awarded "Mr. Cross Country" and Varsity Captain for the team.

Track
During track I ran the mile and 800 meter run. I wasn't to good at the mile, clocking a personal best time of  5 minutes and 8 seconds. In the 800 meter I was the total opposite as my junior year I placed top 5 in my district with a time of 2 minutes and 4 seconds. My senior year I was aiming to break 2 minutes but did not happen due to Covid.

College
After high school I had an offer from two D2 and D3 colleges to run cross country but didn't take them as I got into UT. I kept running as a recreational activity as I still ran about 20-25 miles a week heading into college. I have ran over 1000 miles during my college career so far.

Training
Currently I only run about 20 miles a week where 4 days out of the week I run around 3-5 miles. Sundays are my long run days where I run about 7 miles. I also do resistant training about twice a week as well. When I start training for this half marathon soon I will bump up millage up to 35 miles a week.

Injuries
Running is a high impact sport so injuries are going to happen at some point or another. Through out the 5 years of me running I dealt with multiple injuries. IT Band Syndrome, Patella Tendinitis, shin splints, blisters and ankle sprains are all the major injuries I dealt with.

Running Shoes
When it comes to running shoes 3 come to mind The Original Hoka Clifton 1, Hoka Mach 5 and the On Cloud Cloudsurfer. The original Hoka Clifton 1 was a super light and soft shoe that changed the game for me as far as comfort when running. The Mach 5 and Cloudsurfer were both super light and versatile shoes that were able to take the beating of a long run and the speed of tempo runs.

Thoughts
Usually when I run I think about a lot of things from work, school, family and friends. I found that I shouldn't be doing this as I should focus on being present, so running with music is my go too to keep my mind focus.

Enjoyment
I would say I have this love/hate relationship with running where somedays I absolutely dread it but then somedays I love it like nothing else. Seeing the most beautiful sunsets, seeing the most heavenly clouds, running with friends, enjoying the weather and having a good run are all reason why running could be so precious to me.

The Future
The races on my radar are the San Antonio Rock and Roll 10k where I plan to run sub 40 min 10k. Also to complete 600 miles for the year. Going into 2024 I plan on running the Austin Half Marathon where I plan on running a sub 1hr and 40 minute half. I believe in myself and will make sure these things happen.
